T-shirt Yarn

As I promised...here is my t-shirt yarn or my pieces for t-shirt necklaces.  I know there are thousands of posts on  how to do t-shirt yarn but here is mine.

I cut off the bottom half of the t-shirt

Which I then cut in about 1 1/2 inch strips all the way through the shirt (front and back)
(Yes this t-shirt looks dirty but it is clean...it was one of my husbands work shirts from his old job so they are stained...but it doesn't really matter when you cut it up!)

You will pull and stretch each strip...it will curl in and make a sort of looking tubeing!  I did not cut my strips apart b/c I am useing these in necklaces so I didn't want them cut apart.  I've seen a way to make actual yarn where it's one long continuous strip...maybe I'll try that sometime to knit with?

But that is it...do what you will with your t-shirt yarn.  I love all the recycled t-shirt ideas out there...I've only gotten 1 done now...so many more to try!

  2. It is very easy....plus cheap....any old t-shirts you don't want or go to a consignment store...yes really. I got a t-shirt at a peddlars mall for $.50...I haven't done anything w/ it yet b/c I have other plans for it but I'm just saying! Cheap fabric!

  4. I've got some shirts that I'm waiting for time to cut up. I'm trying to decide if I should leave the color that they are, or dye them. Thanks so much for this. You reminded me about them.:)

  5. Oooo...didn't really think much about dying shirts but that would be a good way from making a lot of white stuff....I means I'm all into some white but I like to mix it up a bit. I've been wanting to try some Tye-Dye....how groovy right!? Hehe!

  6. Hi Stephanie!

Well this idea is new to me...I will have to see how you made that necklace.

Thanks for joining my Bunny Hop Party!

  7. Bunny this yarn is not on going b/c I intended it for my necklace but there is a way to make it to where it goes on and on in one continuous thread like yarn you buy at the store. I haven't tried this technique yet but when I do I will definitely post about it!
