Stinky Raja!

Raja's costume for Halloween 2007 was that of a skunk.  Although Raja's stink is not sprayed she has really bad breath due to her soft doggy food!  This is again a pretty simply made costume.  Made with white and black faux fur and a couple of pieces of velcro.

I started with the tail, made like a pillow.  I cut the black strip wider and a little longer than the white strip since the white strip is just supposed to go down the middle.  I sewed them together fuzzy side to fuzzy side and I just left one end open..  I then turned it right side out.

I then took another piece of white faux fur that was cut the same width as the first strip of white and the length of Raja's body.  I attached via sewing that white strip to the tail I had previously sown.

Lastly I sewed Velcro on the underside of the white strip of fur to attach the costume onto Raja.

I did this twice so one piece of velcro would go around Raja's neck and the other velcro would go around Raja's body.
Again...simple!

Raja's costume inspired my costume that year to borrow some of my husbands hunting gear and be a huntress for Halloween!

Peepee in the Potty!

Although my son is just 18 months old we occasionally sit him on the potty as a way to introduce him to going potty.  Whenever he peepees in the potty whether it's by accident or on purpose we make a big deal about it so he sees it's a good thing.    He has peepeed in his potty on several occasions so you might think....well go ahead and potty train him.  The issue we have is that even though Gregory is 18 months old he doesn't really talk and I feel that potty training would be a lot easier if he were able to tell us when he had to go potty.  I also realize that there will be many of you that believe he should be potty training at 18 months anyways but I assure you he isn't ready to be full on potty training and this is okay since the national average for potty training these days is 3 years old.  I'm shooting more for 2 1/2 years old unless of course Gregory is ready before then....but no matter when we decide to potty train I do not want it to be a fight.  I've helped potty train two children in the past year around 2 1/2 years old and they just picked up on it like they had been peeing in the potty all their lives!  I hope to have that kind of success with Gregory.  Anyways........when Gregory does successfully peepee in his potty he gets a special treat which consists of a few M&Ms usually so I've decided instead of having to run to the kitchen to fetch said treats I want to craft up a jar to keep close to the potty for these celebrations.  I've come to a little issue in deciding what to put on the jar.  I have 3 little sayings that I would like help choosing between....and hey, if you have other cute sayings I would love to hear them!!

1. Gregory's Potty Prize

2. Gregory's Potty Party

3. Do the Potty Dance (and Gregory's name will still be somewhere on the jar)

Spider Raja

As promised today I will show you how to turn a Chihuahua (or any other dog) into a spider
..........Well for Halloween anyways!

(Raja; Halloween 2006...she makes a pretty cute little spider doesn't she!?)

Here is how I did it!  Keep in mind, although I'm no where near "great" at sewing now....I was definitely not when I made this costume for Mrs. Raja.  I simply took a few measurements that I thought I might need; around her neck, around her belly and her length from front to back.  In order for the costume I had in mind to work; Raja would need a sweater or coat of some sort because where we live, Halloween can get a wee bit chilly and because of Raja's size she gets cold easily.  She didn't have nor could I find a black sweater or coat so I would have to come up with this myself.  So the measurements I took were for the coat I was going to attempt to make her.

I bought black fleece large enough to have two layers for Raja's coat, I cut out the pattern of my coat. (sorry I do not have pictures of the step by step process since this was before my blogging days)...I cut out the pattern twice so that I could layer them and sew them together.  I did not need to sew them inside out to keep from having frayed edges because fleece does not fray.
(Above picture is the finished product but you can see the pattern I cut out and sewed together)

I also cut four small holes on each side of one layer so that after sewing the layers together I would be able to insert the legs.

The legs:

As you can see the legs are pipe cleaners.  I took 1 purple and 1 black pipe cleaner and twist them together.  I did this eight times for eight legs.  I then inserted a leg into each of the holes I had previously cut in the top layer of fabric and put a little hot glue into each hole to hold the legs in place.

(I applied velco with adhesive on the back n the spots where the coat would secure around Raja)

Definitely the cutest spider I've ever seen!!
Come back Monday to see how well Raja plays a skunk!

Meet Raja.....

Lets get spookey!  There are plenty more flashbacks on projects that I have done, but with the upcoming holiday quickly approaching, I would like to post some of my past and present projects for Halloween.

My next three blog posts will be of some costumes I've made in the past for......my dog :)

                         Meet Raja!

(The above picture is of Raja with her not so little brother Gregory; July 2010)

Raja is our now 6 year old 2lb 7oz Chihuahua.  One of my fur babies, and of course the smallest of all my babies!

Halloween 2005 was our first Halloween with Raja and I decided she needed a costume to greet kids at the door!  So I made Raja a bat!  As you can see this was not too far fetched as she already looked like one!

(Raja as a bat Halloween 2005, I caught her eating so she looks vicious!)

Not only did the idea of making Raja a bat for Halloween come easy due to her natural ability to look like a bat but the costume was as easy to make as they come.  Raja wore a harness to attach her leash to so I cut out 2 identical pairs of bat wings from black felt. I covered one side of one of the pairs of bat wings with fabric glue, gently laid the other pair on top.  The glue and double layer provided the stiffness needed to keep the bat wings standing up.  I also took a silver sharpy that I already had to draw bone lines to provide a little more depth.  I simply placed the wings between Raja's harness and her back so we could still attach her leash when taking her out side to go to the bathroom. That was it!  She did the rest!

(These are the wings before I put them in place on Raja's back, they look a lot better on her!)

If you like what you see here come back Friday and Monday to see the next two costumes I made for Mrs. Raja.  Which include a Spider and a Skunk!

I need your creative ideas.........

Hello.... hello.... is anyone there!?  I need your help with creative ideas on what in the world to do with these pre-fold cloth diapers! (Seen below)

While pregnant I was running around buying baby clothes and decorating the nursery.  I was also figuring out whether I was going to nurse or use formula, work or stay home, cloth diaper or use disposables.  Okay....it's a little simpler than that!  All these decisions do have to be made but the diaper issue wasn't something I put a lot of thought into.  I went to a local store called "Momma's Hip" because I wanted a Moby Wrap and I knew this particular store carried them.  While browsing their store I saw the cutest little diapers which weren't just diaper covers they were cloth diapers!  The brand was Bum Genius and they were adorable.  With some thought and discussing the idea with my husband who is pretty much on board with most things; I decided I would like to look into cloth diapering.  I'm always up to save some money and cloth diapering can definitely help you save money!  I even found a recipe for the detergent to use on them so I just made my own which also saved us some money.  So we decided I would cloth diaper part time.  Since I decided to stay home with my son I cloth diaper during the day while we are at home.......  The All in Ones and the Diaper Covers were kind of pricey but I found some All in Ones on ebay for a great price and ordered them but figured I should have some pre-fold diapers with Diaper Covers too.  So I bought quite a few as you can see in the above picture!  Well the All in Ones are great and I love them....the pre-folds with covers not so much.  I have yet to be able to use them without them leaking so I just stuck to my All in Ones.  So I have all these pre-fold diapers which my husband would LOVE me to give him to use on polishing cars....that is all fine but he doesn't need ALL of them so I would like to use them creatively.  This is where you come in.  I need ideas!  So now is the time to speak up and tell me.....What would you do with these pre-fold cloth diapers?

(Here is a picture of what one looks like in case you aren't sure.  The middle part is layered, about 4 layers compared to the 1 layered side sections)
